The year 2022 was declared the International Year of Glass, and the history of this material is as impressive as the possibilities for its application — and it all began with… a coincidence.

Some ancient Roman historians, such as Pliny the Elder, claimed that glass was first accidentally melted by Phoenician merchants. Allegedly, during a campfire they lit on the beach, grains of sand made their way into the fire, and the quartz within them melted under the high temperature into small glass forms. Over the centuries, the production process evolved until it reached a breakthrough moment — the manufacturing of glass sheets, which is now the most popular method of production. Modern glass is an ideal tool for creating comfortable and bright spaces without unnecessarily burdening the environment.
